The university was founded in 1967 as "Valencia Junior College", in 1971 it was renamed "Valencia Community College". In December 2010, the Valencia Board voted to change its name to "Valencia College" because its academic scope has expanded, including a bachelor's degree.
Valencia is also one of the best community colleges in the United States, with more than 71,000 students enrolled in 2011. Graduates have a 95% employment rate, with an average annual salary of about $ 43,000.

The culinary team of the Valencia cuisine won the gold medal at the American Federation of Culinary Arts and silver medals at the ACF Regional Competition (fall 2011 - spring 2012).
Valencia's Nursing Valence student often scores more than 90 percent on the national licensing exam for registered nurses - well above the state and national average.
The university offers degrees in the areas of general studies, the arts of entertainment, business, telecommunications, criminal justice and legal research, pedagogy, engineering / architecture, medical science, horticulture, hotel / catering, baking and pastry management, information technology, science and math, social sciences. Valencia Community College also offers online courses in most subjects.
Bachelor's programs include Business Leadership, Cardiology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Visual Studies and Radiation.
