Twelve things to do before the fall term in George Brown College

The beginning of the new academic year is exciting but it can be stressful. There are a few things you can do before the fall term starts that can make your transition back to class a bit easier.

Plan your finances

It's a good idea to establish a budget before you start school. This means identifying your sources of income and tracking your spending. If you have the means, it may also be a good idea to start setting a bit of money aside for an emergency fund.

Connect with a Student Success Specialist

The George Brown Student Success team can help you identify campus supports and resources that are relevant to you. This service is provided at no additional cost. You can access a student success specialist by contacting your program co-ordinator.

Register with Disability Services

If you're a student with a disability, you'll want to register with Disability Services. Our consultants will work with you to accommodate your learning needs. Find out more.

Set up your email

Be sure to set up your George Brown email account before classes start so you don't miss out on any important information. If you'd prefer to receive your personal and college emails in one place, it is possible to forward your GBC email.

Get your student ID card

Avoid the lineups to get your photo taken and submit your pic in advance using our online photo submission system. To submit a photo using our online form you'll need a recent digital picture of yourself and your student ID and password. 

Rent your locker

Lockers are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis at the start of each semester. Make sure you register for a locker as soon as possible to get one in the area you want. There is a fee of $25. You can register for a locker online.

Orientation provides a great opportunity to meet faculty and your fellow students and get a feel for life at George Brown before classes start. This event is also a great way to learn more about college services, ways to get involved in campus life and collect some GBC take-aways in your frosh kit.
